Extreme Heat May Delay School Reopenings in Balochistan

The government of Balochistan is likely to extend school holidays due to a dangerous heatwave sweeping the province. Schools were scheduled to reopen on August 1, but education officials now recommend keeping them closed until August 12. A formal request has been sent to the Chief Minister for approval.
According to the Meteorological Department, the first two weeks of August are expected to bring extreme heat. Temperatures may reach as high as 48°C (118°F), raising concerns about student safety. The education department cited health risks as the main reason behind the proposal to delay school reopening.
Health experts have supported the move, warning that high temperatures could seriously impact children’s health. They have advised against sending students to school during this period. Officials say the safety of students must come first, especially during such severe weather.
The Chief Minister is currently reviewing the situation and is expected to make a final decision within 24 hours. Parents, teachers, and school staff are all waiting for the official announcement. The government wants to ensure that any decision reflects the best interests of children and public health.
Meanwhile, in Punjab, schools are set to reopen on August 15 according to earlier plans. However, many parents expect the date may also change due to similar heat concerns. Even if schools reopen as scheduled, student attendance may remain low until after August 18, when full academic activity is expected to resume.
